This terrible defeat for the Italians triggered the movement of troops from Flanders to Italy to halt the slide. Harry's 23rd Division arrived on 16th November just a week after the Austrian army, bolstered by Hungarian and German troops, had been held at the River Piave.

The Italian army had lost most of its artillery in its retreat.
